Review Summary:

There isn’t much nutritional information listed on the label. At least, it does share Omega fatty acid content, but it could disclose more. The first ingredient is not meat, which isn’t a good start. In fact, this recipe appears stingy on meat sources. If you look at the estimated non-dietary carbs, it is significantly higher than most other dog recipes. If you dog’s weight is a concern then be cautious when considering this recipe. On a positive note, the minerals are proteinate. Overall, this recipe offerings are limited and thus it is slightly below average.

    Ingredients Analysis

    First 5 Ingredients:

    1. Sweet Potatoes
    2. Bison
    3. Potato Protein
    4. Pea Protein
    5. Canola Oil

Sweet potatoes contains an abundant amount of vitamin A and beta –carotene, which are important for the eyes / vision. It is also a good source of fiber and be aware that it does offer carbohydrates, since it is a starchy food type.

Bison is a good, but keep in mind on this ingredient rank list, it factors in the water content, which is roughly about 70% or more water. Too bad it isn’t the first ingredient in this case.

Potato Protein is a good supplemental protein to meat.  It is processed potatoes with most of the starch removed. At the same time, dietary fiber is eliminated too.

Pea protein is from processed peas with most of the starch removed. It is a good source of protein, with almost no carbohydrates. Also there isn’t any dietary fiber either.

Canola oil is low in saturated fat and offers both Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids.  If it matter to you, then please note, it is very likely sourced from genetically modified crops.
