Review Summary:

This recipe offers relatively high protein levels, mainly from chicken and duck with are good sources that provide the needed essential amino acids a dog needs. There aren’t too many vegetables, but it does contain pumpkin, which is notably a good source of vitamin A and beta-carotene. The estimated carbs are relatively low, which is good for dogs that do not require so much of it in their diet. One negative note is it does not provide the Calorie info, which can be helpful to have. Overall, this is an excellent wet dog food.

Pros

  • Multiple good meat sources in top five ingredients
  • Relatively higher in protein
  • Cons

  • Does not provide Calories content info

    Editor’s Taste Rating

     9.5/10

This recipe is just delicious. The shredded is cooked well and taste good. Most of the flavor is dominated by chicken. The broth provide sufficient chicken flavor to boast the taste. Then the pumpkin is not too strong and works well with the meat flavor. It also adds a bit of sweetness that is quite pleasant. Very good!

    Ingredients Analysis

    First 5 Ingredients:

    1. Chicken
    2. Chicken Broth
    3. Pumpkin
    4. Duck
    5. Chicken Fat

Chicken and Duck a good start and source of protein with all the essential amino acids for dogs, but keep in mind on this ingredient rank list, it factors in the water content, which is roughly about 70% or more water.

Chicken broth is a tasty substitute for plain water.

Pumpkin is a squash that offers a good variety of nutrients and most notably it is an excellent source for vitamin A and beta-carotene. Also, worth mentioning, it provides dietary fiber.

Chicken fat is a good for dogs in the right amount, since dogs can effectively metabolize fat and use it for various body system functions, including for energy.

Other Ingredients to be Aware of

Potato starch contains high amounts of calories and carbohydrate.

Carrageenans or carrageenins is extracted from red edible seaweeds. For both humans and animal feed it is used in the food industry, for their gelling, thickening, and stabilizing properties. For humans the FDA regulations deemed it to be considered safe for as a direct food additive, and also safe for infant formulas. The EU takes greater precaution by prohibiting its use in infant formula and organic food claims, but it does permit it for other foods. The potential concern for use of Carrageenan is it may be linked to cancer for humans and various animals, but at the present this is still debatable and not clear. Many companies use it in wet dog food, thus it is relatively hard to avoid if you desire to do so.
