Review Summary:

This brand’s signature ingredient is Avacados, which is a few ingredients down the list and offers healthy fats. Also, there is avocado oil too near the bottom. In this grain free recipe, the first ingredient is peas, which a good ingredient, but a meat would be preferred for its higher amounts of protein, better amino acid profile, does not add complex carbs. In addition to peas, pea flour & potatoes near the top of the ingredient list also contribute significant carbs. These ingredients are reflected in the estimated carb content. Beware of this, for some dogs do not require or handle so many carbs too well. There are minerals that are chelated, which aids the dog’s ingestion system for better absorption. Without too man stellar points, and not being dominated in meat protein content, this recipe is deemed average.

Pros

    First 5 Ingredients:

    1. Peas

Peas are a good source of fiber, protein, and other nutrients too, but note that it does contribute carbohydrates from its starch.

Salmon meal is processed salmon parts and bones that are grounded down. It provides protein and Omega-3 fatty acids. As a meal it contains less water than just “Salmon” itself.

Potatoes are a starchy food, thus it does contributes carbohydrates. Notably it offers a good source of fiber, vitamin C B6, and potassium

Pea flour is a good source of fiber, protein, and other nutrients too, but note that it does contribute carbohydrates from its starch.

Canola oil is low in saturated fat and offers both Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids.  If it matter to you, then please note, it is very likely sourced from genetically modified crops.

Other Ingredients to be Aware of

Rice bran is the outer layer of whole grain brown rice; it surrounds the endosperm. This part of the rice is rich in dietary fiber and contains other carbohydrates too.

Avocados offer a variety of vitamins with particularly good levels of K and assorted Bs. It is also a good source of potassium minerals too. It does contain carbohydrates, but most of it is dietary fiber, which is helpful for the digestive tract. Last, but not least, it is well know for its healthy fat content. It is relatively high fat content is mainly dominated by mono-saturated fats, and it contains some saturated fats too. Within these fats, there are healthy Omega-3 and 6 fatty acids, which are excellent for various biological body processes. Avocados are a healthy as long it is not consumed excessively, due to its high fat content. Avocados being excessive In a dog food recipe is unlikely a concern.

Rosemary oil or Rosemary extract has a few health benefits and can be found in various dog food brands. One of them is an antioxidant. It can also improve or be a stimulant to the circulatory system. However, some say it is associated with epileptic seizure for some dogs. There is no concrete evidence of this, thus we suggest be caution about it and avoid it if your dog had any past seizures or instability.
