Review Summary:

This recipe offers good meat protein from straight named Lamb, Lamb Tripe meats and other sources too that includes meals. However, the liver source is questionable because it does not state the specific source. An example of a clear specific liver type would be “Lamb liver”. The added brewer rice is second tier to a more pure rice ingredient that has not been stripped of its nutrients. This wet food recipe is average.

    Ingredients Analysis

    First 5 Ingredients:

    1. Lamb
    2. Lamb broth
    3. Liver
    4. Lamb tripe
    5. Brewers rice

Lamb is a good start and source of protein that effectively covers each of the essential amino acids a dog needs, but keep in mind on this ingredient rank list, it factors in the water content, which is roughly about 70% or more water.

Lamb broth is a tasty alternative to water

Liver is a good meat part, but it does not specify what animal it came from. By not specifying, it may allow for higher odds of a bad source such as a sick, euthanized, or road kill, which are just a few examples among many other possibilities. Thus, it would be better if they specified the type of liver.  As for nutritional value, it is a good source for protein, minerals such as copper, iron, and various vitamins particularly A, and B12.

Lamb tripe also provides good meat protein.

Brewers rice is milled & processed rice. This processing strips valuable nutrients out, leaving the residual grain fragment, resulting in a carbohydrate biased focused filler. Without much relative value, it is a poor choice of ingredient.

Other Ingredients to be Aware of

Dried beet pulp is a source of fiber, but the saponins it contains may cause irritation in the gastrointestinal tract. If you choose a dog food with this ingredient, then keep a careful watch on your dog and consider discontinuing use if there are any signs of discomfort or irregularities.

Dried Egg product are eggs that are removed from the shell, then processed and pasteurized at a factory. Its composition does not necessary contain both the yolk and egg white from each egg. The manufacture may blend them at any ratio and may include non-egg products for processing purposes.
