Review Summary:

Here is a dog food recipe that uses various organic ingredients. Organic chicken is the first ingredient providing meat protein type with the essential amino acids a dog need. Then it offers a several variety of legumes and couple of potatoes types good for other nutrients. Sweet potatoes in particular have beta-carotene, which are good for the eyes. The legumes are certainly a contributor to the relatively high dietary-fiber level, which is helpful to the digestive system. The minerals are “proteinate”, which helps the body to better absorb them. Overall this recipe sits around the middle grounds and will receive an average rating. Certainly one thing it could do better on is offer a higher protein level than the relatively weak 22% content spec.

  • Relatively higher in dietary -fiber
  • Provides Omega-3 and 6 fatty acid content information
  • Chelated / Proteinate minerals for better body absorption
  • Cons

  • Relatively lower in protein

Chicken is a good start and source of protein that effectively covers each of the essential amino acids a dog needs, but keep in mind on this ingredient rank list, it factors in the water content, which is roughly about 70% or more water.

Peas are a good source of fiber, protein, and other nutrients too, but note that it does contribute carbohydrates from its starch.

Lentils offers protein, but the amino acid profile is not balanced for dogs. Also, it is high in carbohydrates, but this includes dietary fiber too.

Chickpeas (Garbanzo beans) offers protein (not balanced amino acid profile for dogs) and a variety of nutrients. They are also high in carbohydrates and this includes significant dietary fiber.

Sweet potatoes contains an abundant amount of vitamin A and beta–carotene, which are important for the eyes / vision. It is also a good source of fiber and be aware that it does offer carbohydrates, since it is a starchy food type.
