Review Summary:

This recipe offers a multiple combo of Tuna, Duck meat, Chicken and egg protein that provides the essential amino acids a dog needs. Its protein is relatively high too. Tuna also provides healthy Omega-3 fatty acid. There are a couple of vegetables too, which is helpful for providing other nutrients. On the down side, it contains Caramel color, which is for unnecessary aesthetics and the issue it its link to premature aging. Also, it contains Tapioca starch, which holds little to no nutrition value beyond the carbs it contains. An alternative ingredient with higher value would be better. Overall, this recipe is just above average.

Pros

  • Multiple good meat sources in top five ingredients
  • Relatively higher in protein
  • Cons

  • Contains caramel coloring, which aids premature aging
  • Contains added Tapioca starch

    Ingredients Analysis

    First 5 Ingredients:

    1. Tuna Broth
    2. Tuna
    3. Duck
    4. Dried Egg
    5. Carrots

Tuna broth is a tastier alternative to water

Tuna is a good start by offering protein with all the essential amino acids a dog needs, and it provides healthy Omega-3 fatty acids too. Do keep in mind on this ingredient rank list, it factors in the water content when added, which is roughly about 70% or more water.

Duck  is a good start and source of protein with all the essential amino acids for dogs, but keep in mind on this ingredient rank list, it factors in the water content, which is roughly about 70% or more water.

Dried eggs are a good source of protein and Omega-3 fatty acid.

Carrots are a good source of vitamins and antioxidants. It’s well known for its high content in vitamin A and beta -carotene.

Other Ingredients to be Aware of

Barley is a cereal grain that provides a good source of fiber and contains eight out of the ten essential amino acids for dogs. Do note, it is rich in carbohydrates.

Potato starch contains high amounts of calories and carbohydrate.

Caramel color is not necessary as its only purpose is for aesthetics. The downside is it contains advanced gycation end products, which can result in premature aging.

Tapioca or Tapioca starch (also known as tapioca flour) is high in carbohydrates and calories. It is good for energy, but of course too much carbs will go towards storage as fat. Beyond this, it does not offer much nutrients, fiber, or protein. This ingredient is a poor choice for average dog’s diet.
