Ingredients Analysis
First 5 Ingredients:
- Duck
- Duck Broth
- Potatoes
- Dehydrated Potatoes
- Canola Oil
Duck is a good start and source of protein with all the essential amino acids for dogs, but keep in mind on this ingredient rank list, it factors in the water content, which is roughly about 70% or more water.
Duck Broth is a flavorful alternative to water
Potatoes and Dehydrated Potatoes are a starchy food, thus it does contributes carbohydrates. Notably it is a good source for fiber, vitamin C B6, and potassium.
Potato Protein is a good supplemental protein in addition to meat. It is processed potatoes with most of the starch removed. At the same time, dietary fiber is eliminated too.
Other Ingredients to be Aware of
Carrageenans or Carrageenins is extracted from red edible seaweeds. For both humans and animal feed it is used in the food industry, for their gelling, thickening, and stabilizing properties. For humans the FDA regulations deemed it to be considered safe for as a direct food additive, and also safe for infant formulas. The EU takes greater precaution by prohibiting its use in infant formula and organic food claims, but it does permit it for other foods. The potential concern for use of Carrageenan is it may be linked to cancer for humans and various animals, but at the present this is still debatable and not clear. Many companies use it in wet dog food, thus it is relatively hard to avoid if you desire to do so.
