Review Summary:

This recipe ingredient list is pretty basic. The “liver” type it contains does not specify from what animal. Overall, this recipe appears average.

Cons

  • Does not specify the liver type ie from which animal
  • Does not provide moisture content info, which is important for buying wet dog food. This helps determine how much water you are getting

    Editor’s Taste Rating

     8.0/10

The texture is a coarse soft mixture. Pieces of barley and corn give it the “coarse” bits. The meat flavor is a medium-light body.  Combined with the meat flavor is a hint of sweetness from the corn and the barley adds to the flavor. Overall, the taste is good and easy to digest.

    Ingredients Analysis

    First 5 Ingredients:

    1. Water
    2. Beef
    3. Liver
    4. Ground Whole Grain Corn
    5. Cracked Pearled Barley

    Water

Beef is a good, but keep in mind on this ingredient rank list; it factors in the water content (roughly about 70% water).

Liver is a good meat part, but it does not specify what animal it came from. By not specifying, it may allow for higher odds of a bad source such as a sick, euthanized, or road kill, which are just a few examples among many other possibilities.  Thus, it would be better if they specified the type of liver.  Also, keep in mind on this ingredient rank list, this ingredient factors in the water content, which is roughly about 70% or more water.

Corn is source of nutrients and protein, but it is also contains relatively high amounts of carbohydrates and it is commonly found in dog food, since it is relatively cheap. Take caution some dogs may already be or will develop an allergy to corn.

Cracked pearled barley is barley that has the outer bran hull polished off and the toasted to a crack state. The outer hull does contain significant nutrients and fiber.  Barley itself is a cereal grain that provides a good source of fiber and contains eight out of the ten essential amino acids for dogs.
